Anyone else having problems with this version crashing all the time? I have both 1.1 and 2.1 loaded and some files I try to open and 2.1 crashes every time and 1.1 opens them like clockwork. Yesterday I tried 2.1 all day and counted 16 crashes by noon, today I'm using 1.1 and I haven't had a single crash today yet.

hmmm, I can't even create a new blank part without 2.1 crashing. I'll also add that I've uninstalled and reinstalled this version twice thinking it was in the installation something went wrong. Guess I keep using 1.1, no problems at all this morning so far.

Not that this will answer your question--but I've not heard of simultaneous installs of same SolidWorks versions (2008) before, with only different SPs applied. I wonder if this is a problem in this case? I used to run simultaneous differing versions without a problem (2003 and 2004).

did you clean out the registry before you reinstalled it?

SW2.1 is running great here... maybe its your hardware or better yet your Video Card or the driver? List your specs along with VC and driver

I did an update overwriting the version being updated and when I continuously had crashes I did a reinstall of an individual install of 1.1 which gives me two versions that can be run, I'm not trying to run both at the same time. I did not clean out the registry, maybe that is the case and I may have to do that. As for hardware I', running XP pro first of all, Nvidia FX570, dual monitors, XFX nForce 680i LT SLI Socket 775 Motherboard, Intel Quad Core Kentsfield 2.4Ghz Q6600 CPU, 4-Kingston 1024MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz, Seagate 500GB Serial ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3G. All the drivers are current.

There can be a difference between the 'current' video driver and the 'approved' video driver. Make sure that the driver you're using for you video card is approved.
That being said, we've seen problems here running 2.1 when there is a second install of 1.1 on the same machine. Not sure what the exact problem was, but we removed 2.1 and all is well.

I only reinstalled 1.1 after I was having the crashing with 2.1. Version 1.1 gives me no problems at all. I have the approved driver from SW for the FX570 VC

Having multiple copies installed of the same version MAY be a problem, but we are using SP2.1 and it crashes daily. We have three identical computers/hardware/drivers and mine and another is guaranteed 1 crash a day. The other one crashes several times a day, and the only difference we can think of is that user didn't turn off the antivirus before installing.

Well--SP 3 will be available soon. Plus, there are the rumors that work on 2009 will be STABILITY instead of cool-but-broken features. Woot.

STABILITY and SPEED would be much nicer than half working functionality.

While I agree with your statement, in principle, I don't think it applies completely. Since '07 SP0.0, the releases have been much more stable than any other releases and the speed has definitely increased. Also, functionally speaking, I have very few issues with things not working. I hardly ever crash anymore. I actually can't remember the last time I had a crash.
For what it's worth, 2009 isn't going to have nearly the bells and whistles of 2008. SW is focusing more on stability and speed for their upcoming release.
2.1, though, is a problem child. Funny thing is, most people didn't need it. I believe the "fixes" were czech specific.

Did you install with AV disabled?

Curiously, over here I have experienced no crashes since installing 2008 10 days ago but my co-worker with almost the same hardware crashes several times a day. Maybe it's just my personality?!
