I have an odd problem with a user's machine here. Friday his machine worked fine, but today SW will not open. We're on 2008 sp3.1. When he tries to run SW, the splash screen appears and SLDWORKS.EXE shows up in the Process list. However, right about the time that the splash screen should disappear and the application window appear, SLDWORKS.EXE drops out of the Process list and the splash screen goes away. No error message or anything. Chkdsk doesn't find any bad sectors on the HD. I already tried the alternative to reinstalling ( faq559-507 ), then tried an actual reinstall. I'm pretty well stumped at this point. Anyone seen (and hopefully resolved?) this issue before?

Just a few WAGs ...

Are you using SNL?
Have the number of licenses been exceeded?
Or does SNL think they have been?

If standalone, is the license still valid?

Call SW (or your VAR ?) and have them check at their end for license status.

[cheers]

Thanks for the guesses!

The license is standalone, and subscription is valid through August (I think). Of course, the actual license doesn't expire. Our VAR has now remoted in... we'll see if he comes up with anything.

SWBOengine or SWBGengine?

Either way, I don't recall seeing that since '07. It's not running on my machine right now.

Is there enough empty space on the C: drive? Delete everything in the temp folder.

When does it show up? Like I said, I don't remember seeing it since we upgraded from 2007. My process list jumps straight from SUService to svchost.

Already cleaned out the temp files. About 50GB free now.

Well, after a few wasted hours, we think it may be dotnetfx3 related. The install for that won't run on this machine for some reason. It may end up that we have to re-image this machine. Ugh. At least it's not mine!

That's a good question. Nothing that I know of, but our IS "updates" our machines all the time without informing us. Something else they did (a long time ago) screwed up our display of icons for solidworks files. Now they show up as though the OS doesn't know what to do with them. Next they're going to tighten "information security" - disabling CD burners and USB ports.

I know its stupid and not technical but I had the same problem on 2007. If I double clicked the Icon it started as you said and then dropped out without starting

I found if you rmb the icon and choose open it started fine. Not technical I know and I do not know why but it worked for me and I carried on getting the work out

Good luck
