I am trying to come up with a way to model a crumpled up piece of paper to use in a rendering. Any suggestions?

SW probably isn't the best way to do this, but that is all I have to work with. So is there any way to make completely random shapes is SW (like clouds, popcorn, tissues, ...)

Thanks

Um... I love SW for CAD work. But I've never heard of it being the ideal tool for what you want to do. It seems you're looking for something a bit more geared for graphic arts, surfacing, texturing, etc.

So, at the risk of angering the SW Gods, I would suggest you look into other packages like Rhino 3D, which you can get a demo download for free. Also free are some neat Open Source packages like Blender. You really could just do a search in your favorite internet engine for "Open Source CAD" or whatever. Actually, Wikipedia has a great page dedicated to cataloging a huge volume of packages, what they are used for, prices (if not Open Source), etc.

Just a friendly, generalized suggestion. Good luck!

Two thoughts: How will you be using it in your rendering? Will it be background? If so, can you just insert a hi-res picture as said background?
Next, take a look at the intersect tool and surfacing. This may give you the look you're after with a bit of trial and error.

You could try a combination of surfaces taken off of " ramdomized " 3d sketches and thin solid extrudes with the flex feature. Flex is pretty big resource hog - but if you get what you want, then export and re-import as a parasolid. just a thought.
