SW BOM Restructuring

I have created a SW Assy BOM that, isn't Excel based composed of ruffly 70 components. Our MRP system BOM has gaps between the positions of these 70 components yielding a non-consecutive BOM e.g 1,2,3,6,7,8,12,13. This is caused from previous engineering changes.
Are there any suggestions on how I can skip positions on the SW Drawing BOM to reflect our MRP? Our MRP is not as friendly as some so I'm hoping there is a way of manipulating the SW Drawing BOM instead of resorting to modifying the MRP BOM. I thought of making "dummy" components as place holders but I don't want to deal with maintaining these dummy components in the future.

An MRP system is supposed to reflect the design of the product. When MRP starts to dictate product design it is past time to get a better system.

Sorry I don't have a simple, sensible, constructive answer for you. My answer is change the MRP system.

My company is planning on switching to Solidworks in the near future. We are also going to run into the same situation.

Right now it looks like the plan is to just reorder the MRP based on the BOM that Solidworks generates.

BOM's that are still in Autocad will just stay with the empty item numbers until they get redrawn in Solidworks.

It will kinda be annoying but still will be better than having to make BOM's in the AUTOCAD drawing and in the MRP and still not having a guarantee that they match what will actually be built.

Can't wait till we switch.

I am not saying this is the only way, but it is our way.

We have created dummy parts called 00001A, 00002A, 00003A, 00004A, and etc. The description is the same for all parts ***DO NOT USE***
When we want to remove item 12 from the BOM and hold that place. We put in 00001A with a quantity of zero.

Could you not use the Keep Missing Items and Strikeout options?

I didn't think of that. I already invested in future long-term carpal tunnel with all the data editing to the MRP.
Thats good to know for next time though.

"If components have been deleted from the assembly since the Bill of Materials was created, you can keep the components listed in the table. If missing components are still listed, the text for the items can appear with Strikeout display."

So I tried this out on an assy and provided an image for those curious.

For Item #3 I deleted it and inserted a different part.
For Item #4 I executed a Replace Components.
