We've had all kinds of problems upgrading from SW2007 to SW2009 SP0. SW2009 SP2 is about to be released. I would wait for that. SW2009 was installed on a machine prior to the upgrade so we could kick the tires. During the testing, there were not any issues. Once we upgraded all users, what a mess.
Here are some of the lowlights:
- 3 out of 17 machines had to be reformatted because two were found to be corrupting files and one would crash everytime you tried to open SW. We tried uninstalling and reinstalling just SW but to no avail. All machines were loaded with SW Admin Image.
- A number of users reported problems with assembly mates.
- Parts that had beed deleted in SW2007 assemblies were showing up in SW2009.
- Material properties assigned in SW2007 Photoworks reverted to the default material in SW2209.
- The Reload feature in assemblies still doesn't work. SW is working on it.
- Just recently we had a problem with a series of drawings crashing SW when trying to open. SW fixed the one I sent them and said that SP2 includes the fix although they didn't give any specifics.
In summary, if I knew the troubles we were in for, I wouldn't have gone ahead with the upgrade. We upgraded on 11/8/2008 and are now on SP1. Things have calmed down. At least I'm not hearing in meetings that schedules have slipped because of SW.
Good luck
