I was recently asked a question about wether a vertical motor that we have is a Suspended Type or an Umbrella Type.

I have never heard these terms used in reference to motors. Can anybody shed some light on this for me.

Thanks

Yooper,

In vertical hydro generators,

Suspended type - Thrust bearing on top (i.e. above generator rotor).
Umbrella type - Thrust bearing on bottom (i.e. below generator rotor).

May be in vertical motors, the same definitions will apply.
