A friend of mine has asked for some advice on performing a survey of a deep water well in Arizona. She needs to know the width, depth and other useful characteristics of the underground water supply. There are several six inch holes drilled down to the underground river to a depth of about 250 feet. She was referred to a company which does sonar imaging(sharkmarine.com) but they are located in Canada. What options are out their to perform this type of survey. I have no experience in this area so any advice or links to advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

First, go to the county and ask about it. Then contact the Dept. of Natural Resourses in Arizona. They may have already mapped this aquifer.

I am assuming she has already done this but I will run that by her. Assuming that she has, where could I go to find a company that will do the survey? What is the standard methond by which to do such a survey? I have been searching around and have not found anything.

Any local well driller could carry out an inspection of the well and arrange a pumping test if you consider it necessary.

Once you know which aquifer the well is in, you have a geology professor give you a map of the aquifer. I am not sure what your friend really needs. there may be a communication gliche from her to you to us.

There are many different types of logs that you can run down a well - first you need to determine the objective. Is it an open hole or cased well? and then what are you trying to determine. If you want to know the yield then a stepped pumped test is what you want. A pump test will also give you and indication of the state of the well.

Logs can measure the geometry (calliper logs), relative properties of the geology (gamma logs), soundness (sonic logs) etc. etc. You can run a down hole CCTV camera. What do you want to do , why do you want to do it and how much do you want to spend doing it ?.

You will also likely get more sensible answers than mine if you post this on the soil, groundwater forum
