Guys

I'm looking for advice on how to test surge arrestors installed for lightning protection.

I've got several cathodically protected pipes. As the pipes emerge from underground they join the above ground pipework through insulated joints. Across the joints there are solid state surge arrestors.

To test these am I looking to a simple megger test at say 5kV or is it more complex and are there specialist companies?

I'm driven by BS-EN-60079 (ATEX) to inspect the surge arrestors every 3 years. Is there additional legislation that brings this time in further.

Installation is in the UK.

thanks

Remove them one at a time for testing so as to not hi-pot any of the pipes...[purpleface]
