Surge and Hammer !!!

Does the definition of water hammer and water surge have the same meaning ?

not really - not all surges cause hammer. Surge is an increase in pressure and sometimes causes water hammer to occur.

My conceren about the surge pressure that occured after the pump shutdown due to power failure or shutdown without soft start or vfd system ... !!! this type of pressure riseup and the surge waves that will occure after the shutdown . Can we consider it as WATER HAMMER , or can we have water hammer during this surge waves ???

you will have to do a surge analysis to determine if you will have any issues with water hammer.

If you had a tall vertical column of water that had an associated check valve, you might need to "land", or seat the check valve by bringing the flow down to a stand still, before stopping the pump. If power is lost the column could drop uncontrolled, slamming the check valve and leading to hammer. Most of the time this probably is not an issue.
