Surfaces to Solidbody conversion

Hi all,

Is it possible (within SW 2006, SP4.1) to convert Surfaces to become Solidbodies? We use Step Files from our customers all the time that come in as Surfaces with no mass properties. We would like to convert them to Solid Bodies and specify the material to better use Cosmos to analyze our designs. I tried "knitting" surfaces but, no joy.

Any thoughts?

Surfaces need to be "watertight" before you can turn it into a solid. Use Tools>Check to see where the holes/flaws are. The surfaces need to be knitted together and the holes pluged with surface patches (fill surfaces work nicely). Difficult areas can be cut away with a trim and recreated.

Do what bvanhiel said. When you get to the Knit feature, select the "Try to form solid" option to convert the knit surfaces into a solid.

Reason trumps all. And awe trumps reason.

Look at your surfaces in wireframe (not shaded). Free edges should be a different color than surface edges that are knit to other surfaces (this can be set in the options).

Check your import settings (there should be a button in the "Open file" dialog). Perhaps you have it set to not make solids.

Also try "Heal geometry", available by right-clicking any of the surfaces in the feature tree.
