Surface finish question

Hi all,

I'm a new subscriber, just started up my own engineering business after years as an employee. Anyway my question is this
- I've just machined a prototype component for a customer. I'm not proud of the surface finish although I reckon its within tolerance (N7 all over to drawing) Now the question is, do I supply it as is or do I sneak it in to the day job and flash it over on the grinder to make it a job that I can be proud of? Truth be told, if I had a grinder I'd already have done this.

I feel like this is a bit of a catch 22 - I don't want to give the customer something which I'm not proud of, equally I don't want to be taking the mickey at my day job by doing work on their kit which isn't theirs (even if its on my time)

As an aside, I'm already below drawing limit due to the free issue material being below size!

You already meet drawing requirements.
This sounds more like an ethics question;
Do I use someone elses equipement without there permission or without paying for it, so I can make more money on my own side job?

Yes, I think its more of an ethics type question rather than a actual technical issue. I think what I'm going to do is to speak to the customer and just find out what he wants doing
