Having got a surface finish specification - does anyone have the correct or defined process for correct measurement. By this i mean what calculation does one use (2cr etc) how many cut offs ? - Flat or Curved calculation ? - Length of analysis ? what frequencies / band width ?
This appears to be a little mine field with lots of interpretations.
Has anyone got any defined process of effective measurement please

You might check in the gear forum. There could be an AGMA spec. I suspect that with bevel gears the manufacturing processes are limited, so you only get what the process can do. It is probably just a standard Ra spec. Most of the bevel gears I have worked with were not that smooth because they were machined and could not be ground. PM gears might have a better finish.
