Suppress parts in an assembly

What specifically are you trying to do.

You can hide them, even create configurations with them hidden. These can be fed into drawing views.

You can also exclude items from parts lists, drawing views etc.

Family of assemblies with alternate parts, though I haven't used it.

Explain specifically why you want to 'suppress' them and someone may be able to help.

Thanks KENAT

I am designing a product using a current product design. I want to start the new design using a copy of the current design’s assembly and "suppress" the parts that will not be used in the new design. I don't want to delete them because I am not sure if some of those parts will actually be taken out in the new product or not. So I want to be able to "unsuppress" them if I need them again. Yes, I could hide them, but I would not be able to use the Unhide all command without un-hiding the undesirable parts. Just hiding the parts doesn’t seem practical for the purpose.

In other words, what I would like to do is basically to put some parts aside for future deletion but be able to easily bring them back without having to re-assemble them if I needed.

Most parametric 3D programs have a suppress/unsuppress function that have a different purpose to the hide/unhide or group/ungroup command. I am hopping Solid Edge has something as simple.

I think display configurations may be what you want to use.

You could create a configuration that has all the parts hidden that you don't want to show. You can update this configuration (or create different ones) as you add new parts or change your mind on existing parts.

These configurations can feed drawing views if you need to do a 2D lay out or something.

Separately (I believe) you could choose to exclude certain parts from displaying in reports (parts lists etc) and even in drawing views (and I think higher assemblies) using Property Manager, or may be occurance properties for the assy, I can't recall right now.

HI Mauricio,
Put the parts you don't want into a group.
Select them then RMB and Group.
They will then be easy to find and manipulate.
As Kenat says, you can then use Occurrence Properties to prevent them dispaying on drawings, in BOMs and at next level up in assembly.
It will also be easier to maintain view configurations if they are grouped.
If you have used SolidWorks in the past, its configurations are NOT the same as view configs in Solid Edge.

If you have V20 then yeah groups may be the way to go, I'm still on 19 hence my advice.

Kenat, yes you're correct to point out groups only came in at V20 - it's funny how quickly new functions become so familiar you imagine they've always been there.
I use the component grouping all the time now - it makes organizing an assembly so much easier.
Any reason you've not upgraded yet ?

None that I care to go into!

We went to V19 fairly late too.

Looks like we may go to V20 just in time for V21 to come out!

However, that's only if the people who think we should abandon the 20,000 odd SE files we have and jump to another cad system (mostly they want Works but one wants Pro E), despite the fact we have no money to do this, don't have their way.
