Reciprocating pumps are used in mud systems while drilling offshore. We are talking 2500lbs systems with 6” or 8” piping. The discharge piping systems are sometimes designed poorly, resulting in reckless shaking and demolished pipe supports. (Rectifying measures have been performed before pipe failure…)
I am looking for information that will help me restrain mud systems properly. Are there any rules of thumb for how to restrain these systems and what kind of support detail is best?
Ideas, experience or comments are highly appreciated!

Hi Tarkjell,

Wow, tough problem to fix. See if you can get a copy of:

Bracing for Piping Systems Seismic-Wind-Dynamic Design, Selection, Application
MSS, SP-127-2001, $55.00

Best regards, John.
