please help. We have a sulfur plant that will be shut down for two years. How to prevent internal corrosion in plant equipment and to put it under preservation. What is the best way to do that? , the plant contains:
1- absorber unit
2- Claus sulfur recovery unit
3- tail gas
4- incinerator unit
5- degassing unit

The Plant should follow the shutdown procedure for clean up, and open for inspection. And then, one option is to purge with N2 gas to preserve the process equipment and piping.

Your task it is not easy becouse a sulphur unit corrodes more when it is long time shuted down special in wet climates. What mk3223 said, is ok but you have to be awere that leaks are allways present, and a positive n2 pressure and a dry ambient shall be maintained.

good luck

If you have austenitic stainless piping , it could be subject to polythionic SCC during shut-down if not chemically stabilized grades like 321. L grades may be resistant depending on specific chemistry and degree of sensitization ,if any.
