We have in Puerto Rico some salted pool(marine water),fascilities and the shore line will be provided with an architectural finish of rocks fixed to a mortar layer of approximately two and a half inches.
We need to investigate if the marine environment will affect the mortar in term of sulfates. As far as we know, type V concrete and/or a series of corrosion inhibitors aditives are commonly used in the concrete design mix to protect the reinforcement but we dont have clear if the sulfates also affect the mortar elements such as the cement and fine aggregate.
Please provide info or papers that could clarify the sulfate action to mortars
