Sub-Slab Depressurization

I have been approached by a survey team who suggest that I need to do a "...Sub-Slab Depressurization..." on my building. I have a 20,000 sq. ft. commercial structure with a 30ft high roof.

I have been surfing the web for some information regarding the need and cost of this procedure. I have determined that this is primarily reserved for the metering off of Radon Gases from residential properties.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Is it possible to perform Sub-Slab Depressurization on a building of this size?

2) Is it necessary to perform Sub-Slab Depressurization on a well-ventilated building of this size?

3) What would be the cost of this procedure, ($100's or $1,000,000's)?

Sources for supporting documentation would be appreciated.

Where did these guys come from? Talk to the BBB first. Sounds like a scam operatio to me. How much pressure would radon gas generate?

I would first determine if this is necessary and required. You would want to do your own survey. If YOU DECIDE it is necessary, then hire somebody else to do the work.

Yep, sounds like a scam. Demand references...and check them thoroughly. And checking with the BBB is a great idea. Also check with some of the local environmental engineering firms - they may have run into these guys before and know their MO.

From what I have seen sub-slab depressurization is normally used to vent methane from decomposing organics under your building. You may want to look at what the soild conditions are. Normally the venting is rather inexpensive, mainly some vents to let the gas out from under your concrete.
