hi all,

I use proe at uni and have the student version at home. i have a problem that wen ever i save my parts at uni on the student teacher version when i take them home it wont let me open them to work on at home!!

is there any way round this?

Sorry for not using the search function and tryin to find info that way but i wasnt sure what to put in as my search!!

Any help will be gratefully recieved as i only have 7 weeks left to finish my assignment and at present cant do any work at home!!

Strange!

as long as both are the same proe versions or you have a later version at home, there should not be any problem..

only if in univ u have a later version than your home, you are in trouble..

what versions are at you having at univ and at home?

check it by

Help->about proengineer (see what is the release (version) )...

good luck

A comercial version of Proe cannot use files from a Student version, and vise versa. They do this so that you cannot use a student version commercially.

i am aware of the license agreement but for some reason it says drawing was created by an incompatible version and aborts opening.

its rather annoying!

As Hari suggested you should check the software versions. Later releases can open older versions but not vice versa. If your home parts open at the university but not the other way around you have a version conflict.

is there no little program i can run to stop this happenin?

Like that little disc we got free with MCAD that sorted it out on autoCAD??

Its just really frustrating me as i work full time and go uni pt time so i dont get much opportunity to go into uni and even then its an 80 mile round trip so rather costly for something that i should be able to do at home!!

I think I may have th esolution for you..

in the University version of Pro there is a "Floating module" called "Edu_Com_convert". depending on how Pro was installed at the university, theis may be checked as default!

when saving your model make sure that this is not checked (tools/floating modules)

Also I cant remember but soe some reason I'm thinking you need to do a backup to a different directory or change the name for it to work..

James

what about save as neutral file...granted it will be a import feature

you shouldn't need to save as neutral..

can you copythe EXACT text that pro gives you? or better still a screen shot?

Cheers,

James

Atrick I used a few years back was to create a UDF of all the features of a model and and import this into a model...

Can you still create UDFs in SE ?

All useful ideas but i cant open the darn things to try any of these!!

Looks like im just gonna have to model them again and just not work on them at uni incase it happens again!

Thanks for your help chaps & chappess'

have you checked the floating module on the UNIVERSITY seat? can you please copy the text error that Pro gives you?

You need to do as James sugested.

Check versions (datecode) first!

(no posting to whether you have checked this or not)

Check to ensure conversion option is not running! I've never used this, but know that it exists).

Last, consult the university and/or PTC to ensure settings are correct.

And yes Doug, SE, PE, and TE canutilize UDFs.
