Hello ,
I'm having trouble undertanding which material can I use for Flat Flanges witout hub regarding Appendix 2 ou UG-14.
so my question is very simple : Can I use flat plate for theses flanges like studded outlet shown on thoses attachements
(flane on btm head , anf flange on top head)

Thanks.
Laurent.

401laurent, plate is permitted for flanges without hubs. Apx 2 does not prohibit this. UG-14 appears to not apply.

Regards,

Mike

Forged or rolled bar material is also okay, as I see UG-14(a) does not prohibit the use of bar material for ring flanges. Studded outlet shall be considered as a ring flange.
It is important to know for me how you design studded outlet using Appendix 2? in my opinion studded outlet is out of appendix 2 scope, please share the design method you have adopted

Hi SnTMan,
As you see on drawing attachement, the flanges are cut from plate of 2" thk for the bottom flange and 1.25 " for the top flange for agitator, I like to be sure that the flanges are not formed into a ring as specified in Appendix2-2(d)(2)(a).

As you Know the forging material is more expensisve, and using plate into forming ring is impossible in this case , so direct cutting plate and machining for theses flanges is very economical if it"s not prohibited as you say.
Thanks.

Hi Fizza453,
I khnow that forging material is permitted, but its very expensive.
for design calculations, I used Appendix 2.

Thanks.
Laurent.

Fizza453, I would consider this a loose ring type reverse flange under Apx 2 and design accordingly. Extra material may be added to contribute to opening reinfocement if desired.
