Anybody know where I can find a method for analyzing structural support rings for pressure vessels. I have investigated the method proposed by Bednar and Moss. The Moss method is less conservative than Bednar's approach as it takes into account some of the shell's inertial contribution.

Upon reviewing the designs with via FEA, it has become clear to me that these methods result in very over-designed rings.

Any leads in finidng an alternate analytical method would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can build your own method with the formulae for circular rings found in the Roark.
In the site below there are also a few of them.

Try Blodgett's "Design of Weldments," Ch.4.7

Actually bought Blodgett's "Design of Welded Structures". Very nice book. Didn't help me with my structural ring design problem. The methods still give results that are incredibly conservative vs. FEA. Not sure what the purpose of these methods are if the result is a design with an FS of 10!!!

It is very frustrating to not be able to have analytical method for rings that results in design that reflects reality a little better. Appreciate the advice given though!

If anybody has seen anything else concerning structural ring design, I would once again be greatly appreciative.
