Structural Engineering Design Stages

Hello!

What are the main design stages used in your country for structural engineering? For example in the UK, according to RIBA Plan of Work, there are 3 main design stages:
* Concept Design
* Developed Design
* Technical Design

Which standard or a guide is used to determine how much information is needed in a particular design stage?

In NZ we have the Construction Industry Council (CIC) Design Guidelines, they provide quite a good breakdown of what deliverables are expected at various design stages. It's probably applicable to other countries and regions as it's fairly universal.

Way back I got a copy of the CASE National Practice Guidelines for The SER. It details the stages of Basic Services as follows:

1. Project Development Phase
2. Schematic Design Phase
3. Design Development Phase
4. Contract Document Phase
5. Bidding & Negotiation Phase
6. Construction Administration Phase.

I don't think I ever used all the phases since my projects were usually smaller but it is a great way to organize a cost estimate spreadsheet.

In oil and gas, and power generation projects is more clear and diffenet. The first is the apraise which equal to concept in normal building and then FEED (front end engineering design) which is same as preliminary engineering but in this phase we select every thing in the project and then the define stage.
