straight line linkage

I'm designing a linkage to open and close a clamp. I had restricted space and cost (surprise) so i just went with a simple 2 bar- lever like mechanism.. any good ideas on how i can figure out if it will bind at any point. I am going to leave a sufficient amount of play at the pins but I am still worried that it might bind???

You might want to look at Carr (St. Louis), Grainger or MCMaster. They sell some pretty good durable clamps.

ya sorry guys i won't be able to upload the drawing...i understand that its pretty hard to do anything without a drawing. Any general rules of thumb?

Have you looked at the DeStaco catalog? They make an enormous variety of toggle type clamps.

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.
