All,

I must find reference to help design a combined support and stiffener for a 4m diameter, 15m tall deaerator tower. The support/stiffener needs to support water/packing etc. up to 40,000kgs while acting as a stiffener to the 15mm thick vessel. The vessel needs to be designed for full vacuum.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

JOD

john...

It sounds like you need a modification to a pressure vessel. There is another forum on this website, "Boiler and Pressure Vessel Engineering" that may be a better place for you to post....

Good Luck...

Oh, and can you tell us about the reason for the modification/repair ?

MJC,

I tried posting to BPV Forum also and failed anyway this isn't a mod, just first time with a Deaerator.

Cheers,

JOD

Don't stick your neck out. Let a licenced structural engineer do this design. Review the Engineering Code of Ethics.

lilliput1 This would actually fall under mechanical engineering with an experienced pressure vessel design engineer.
JohnOD If you are in the US and the vessel is being designed to meet ASME code then just give the loading information to the design engineer at the code fabrication shop and he will incorporate the stiffener ring/support ring into the vessel design. You can try to back check it if you want. I wish I could tell you where in the ASME code stiffeners and support plates are but I can't. Maybe someone else can fill you in on those details if you want to back check the shop.
