We have an open celled - fibrous PU foam product that we would like to stiffen by using a spray coat/ dip coat or some such process. We envision using this final product for structural applications by perhaps overlaying a stiff pad or grid post coating. Any ideas on what we should be looking at for the stiffening/ coating process would be helpful.

What Pud says. Gel-coat as used on fiberglass boats makes a good finish coat for that, or by itself too. And, of course, non-foaming PU could work. Another option is to blow the foam inside a pre-molded shell (e.g. rotomolded PE or blowmolded ABS), think refrigerator internal shells or beverage coolers.

Fill it with water, freeze it, and keep it cold.
