[2thumbsup]It seems that a change in steel stock standard is looming on us.. We have many parts and assemblies which use imperial section RHS and SHS.
Suppliers now are starting to get stock in metric.
Most of these parts are created from a part family and use 2 expressions "height" and "width"....
would it be possible to get a journal to go thru every part in the current assembly and update these expressions?
OR...
(like a re-file script) go thru all directories in the "load options" and update all parts.
some sort of log file would also be useful.
any help appreciated..

Is it possible that any other parts use expressions named "height" and "width"; parts which you would NOT want to change? If so, what would differentiate these parts from the ones you want to change?

i'm pretty sure no other's use the same names...but there's also one other expression in those files called "CUT" which is for the initial length, if those 3 expressions exist in a part, then it can ONLY be the right ones.
Also, just to clarify, the base units in the files, are correct, ie: 50.8 needs changing to 50, and 25.4 needs changing to 25, 38.1 needs changing to 38 etc

So, eliminate the fractional part so you are left with an integer? Like using the floor() function?

Or is there a list of standard values and you need to round to the nearest one?

If the components are generated from a part family, won't the change have to be made in the part family file itself? Can you modify the 'children' individually? I thought they would be read-only.

yes it will , going forward.... i only included it to show what expressions etc are in those files.
the children aren't read only, as we have to modify their length, add end trims, holes etc.

[smile2]Cowski,
Once again.. you've come to my rescue, that works faultlessly, thank you SOooooo much.
The log file, tells me everything i need, any files that weren't created from the part family, i can easily pick out and do manually, great job..
