I believe there is a rule of thumb for the flow of open steam in an application where steam is used to strip off the lighter/lower-boiling hydrocarbons from a multicomponent hydrocarbon mix (e.g., prefractionation prior to desulfurization in a coking plant). However, I can't recall what that rule of thumb might be, apart from a very vague recollection of something along the lines of ~0.5 lb steam/gallon liquid feed--which memory may very well be way off. Can someone please refresh my memory--preferably with a source for the rule of thumb? Thanks.
