Static port location selection

Could someone point me to an authoritative document that discusses the selection and validation of static port location for flush mounted ports.

My Google searches turn up plenty of home-builder forum discussions along the lines of "would it be ok to put my static port <<here>> because it makes the plumbing easy?", but nothing that I'd consider a reliable source.

i'd imagine the most you'll find, maybe in an AC, maybe a text, is that you want the static ports in a location with smooth airflow, so you have a consistent relationship between local pressure and remote free-stream pressure. you wouldn't want your readings affected by wake off an antenna, or separated flow.

And if I am flying - please put it where I can see it during pre-flight and also where "crap" can't get into to it too easily.

and maybe check them for speed tape ( a la AeroPeru B757)

Haven't the certification rules tightened up due to the rvsm requirements?

Maybe look in an ARINC, RTCA or SAE specs, also maybe FAR Title 14 Part 25.

I know we do things like waviness checks before we send the FAA the RVSM paperwork. I'm not first hand familiar with it though.
