I am working on part names for a new line of products we are developing. Does anyone know where to find the standards or rule of thumb convention for doing so? Is this regulated or accepted by ASME or another organization where I could find standardized information? Thanks for any input you can give.

ASME Y14.100.

A lot of it is in a non mandatory appendix but there is a little in the main body.

Also ASME Y14.38 gives a list of standard abbreviations etc.

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)
What is Engineering anyway: faq1088-1484

vctech,

Nomenclature for U.S. DoD components is very specific. It is covered by MIL-STD-1661.

Hope that helps.
