When designing stair stringers for typical 46" wide steel stairs , do you consider the length of the stringer fully braced by the treads and risers. In most cases the treads and risers are welded to the stringer with L1.5x1.5.

I have analyzed a lot of stairs for forensics investigations and have designed stair stringers. I consider the stringers to be fully braced by the treads.

The referenced threads come to essentially the same conclusion.

The stair system starts emulating a Verendiel Truss system. Hence the lateral bracing... Sorry for the spelling - it's too hot to get up and look it up. [sadeyes]
