Looking to install 3 inch stainless steel pipe. The service is produced water. My pressure is 2100 psig.

If i were using carbon steel i would buy 3 inch schedule 40 , Grade B (35000 yield strength) which for B31.4 is good for 2390 psig.

For stainless steel pipe does B31.4 apply? what yield strength does stainless steel have?

Do i buy 304 or 316?, Schedule 80 or Schedule 40?

Thanks in advance!

Better question.

What is the pressure rating for 3 inch stainless steel 316, schedule 40 and schedule 80?

for a produced water application.

Thanks

Suggest that you post in the "Piping & Fluid Mechanics" Forum.

This forum is devoted to materials questions ....whereas you question is one of piping design and pressure rating.

If this piping were to be designed according to B31.1/B31.3 Schedule 80S Stainless pipe would be acceptable.
