stainless steel, duplex, handeling

I'm a material handling technician for BP, in Prudoe Bay. I can't get a strait, or satisfactory answer as to why I (according to my supervisors) "shouldn't let other metals touch what ever duplex product i am working with". I know that it is less susceptible to corrosion, and no one can tell me anything except "You just shouldn't".

The Corrosion engineering forum would likely generate more response than this one will. I think believe what your supervisors are trying to communicate is the concept of iron contamination on corrosion resistance of stainless steel. Stainless steels have a passive oxide film that is the source of corrosion resistance. If this passive film is disrupted due to the presence of iron particles (due to machining tools contaminated with carbon steels, grinding residue, etc.) then corrosion resistance is impaired.
