Stainless Steel Corrosion in Deionized Water

Does anyone have information on stainless steel corrosion in deionized water? I have been asked to specify a wleded stainless steel for use in a water filtration system that will have deionized water.

Depends on the grade of DI water. Extremely pure DI ( High Mega ohm range) is very aggressive to most all alloys.

In the 10 megaohm/cm3 resistivity range (ambient temperature and pressure) I have used 304L without much problems.

If it is 18 mohm DI water, try using plastic - either fiberglass or thermplastic lined fiberglass. Semiconductor plants use lots and lots of 18 mohm DI water. All their storage tanks (40,000 gallon) are fiberglass lined with PVDF (polyvinylidene flouride).
