Hi. I have an operating temperature of 1000 Deg C for which I need a Stainless Steel base plate. Given the cost differential, can I use SS 202 Grade for such a temperature, or is SS 310 the only economical option? Thanks.

310 is your only choice unless you want to mover to a real high temp grade.
What is the atmosphere, size, load, thermal cycling?
All of those are critical.

SS310 doesn't usually compete head to head with SS202. It is considered primarily for high temperature applications.

And for castings ; HK (310) and HH ( 309). Several similar propriety grades are available . The next step up is HP and proprietaries.
