Does anyone have any experience with squirrel cage rotor test systems beyound the standard growler test? We currently purchase various rotors (10Hp thru 3000Hp, 2,4, and 6 pole applications) and currently only do a traditional growler test prior to motor build. We have seen suspect failed results on some die cast rotors where only partial bars show up on the magnetic paper in random areas. After dissection, these showed no bar problems, but of course the rotors were destroyed finding that out. Does anyone have any experience with Rissati Intruments and their 01/C unit which basically performs a computerized growler test while rotated on a lathe where the results are recorded and analyized by their software for bar breakage, cage eccentricity, porosity, bar angle, and alloy quality (according to their website). I am tyring to provide accurate and repeatable testing for incoming inspection of rotors, so whether or not there are better methods out there is of great interest.
