SQUARE INCH PROPERTY

I have been trying to figure out a way to have the square inches of a part to be calculated for a sheet metal part and have it added to a BOM in a "QTY" field. Is there any way to have it calculated as opposed to me overwriting the information and destroying the link between the part and the BOM?

You should be able to use the SW-SurfaceArea property from the document properties.
