I see the HSS bending equations in the steel code but do not see anything that specifically addresses combined loading. I am using a square HSS cantilevered column w/ lateral loading at the top in x and y axes. Does this make any difference or can you effectively ignore the lesser of the two loads.

Thanks

I would thing that a standard unity equation would apply at a bare minimum. I.E Max/Mrx + May/Mry <= 1. That's what the Canadian code indicates for all members, regardless of section type. The section type just comes into play when determining the Mr of the section.

Can't ignore it, but its fairly straight forward. See Section H1.1 in AISC (assuming that is your governing code). Depending on axial load in column, Eqns H1.1a or H1.1b will be used which have "strong" and "weak" axis bending. Since you have a square tube, the capacity in either direction is the same.
