I have a question about little skylights in warehouse area. In warehouse area are ESFR K200 sprinklers. Some of skylights them are equipped with smoke vent feature.
The skylights are 3,75m2 area (1,5mx2,5m) and are slightly more than 3,0m2 from NFPA13 edition 2010 point 8.5.7.1. The distance beetwen skylights are more than 3,0m.
We think, that the sprinklers will be ommited from this skylights. What do you think about it,Is it correct?

Sounds possible as long as you can maintain the maximum design spacing and instaal per listing of the sprinkler

In the US, automatic smoke and heat vents are not permitted in a building protected by ESFR sprinklers because of the concern of them prematurly opening which could cause an excessive number of sprinklers to operate.

Have you considered this in your design?

Good catch Scott

ok, but the smoke vents will acticate only manually. What about the sprinkler in 3,75m2 skylight?

Can you hit your design spacing without placing them in the skylights????

Yes, I can. But in NFPA13 edition 2010 point 8.5.7.1 have wrote that only in skylights to 3,0m2 sprinklers would be ommited from skylight. What about this?

good question??

are you meeting 8.12.2.3?? section

can it meet ceiling pocket section??

How deep are they???

Skylights are not ceiling pockets. the two sections are not meant to be met collectively. The NFPA committee has tried to clarify this in the later editions

In the pocket section it did say something like noncombustible or limited, or something along that line. Sorry do not have the section readily available

So could you say if the skylight was proven to be limited combustible it would qualify as a pocket ????

How deep are these skylights???? V
