I'm looking for information, articles, advice, et. on providing automatic sprinkler protection of battery formation (charging) areas. The fire hazard that I see is primarily the plastic battery cases but does that outweigh the electrical risk?
I have seen many sprinklered UPS rooms in telecom facilities but I'm not clear where NFPA states that protections is required for these areas. They are generally too large for clean agent or water mist systems.
Section A.6.2.6.1 of NFPA 13 includes "storage battery rooms" - not sure what this is...UPS rooms, etc...?
On a similar note, I have a tough time understanding how a automobile battery can be a Class I commodity but a truck battery (seems a little vague)is a Group A plastic (NFPA classification). I know the "thicker battery walls" argument but it seems like quite a jump. Anyone know of actual testing?
Any assistance, articles indicating loss history, etc, would be greatly appreciated.
