Hi everyone!!

I am writing to see what everyones opinion is on spring loaded thermocouples.

I have seen them used and not used. What do you all do?

My opinion is that they should be used in all situations. I don't think there is a reason to risk having bad contact with the thermowell, and thus bad response time in the measurement.

But what does everyone else have to say?

Thanks in advance for you opinion!

I always spec spring-loaded. Manufacturers expect a fairly sloppy length dimension that is compensated by spring loading the tip against the thermowell.

Even with spring loading, I recommend the use of thermal conductive paste to get the best conduction possible.
