I posted this in the Coating forum, hoping that coating experts would be well versed in all the military and commercial specs/standards for spray paint. The responses were as vast as I expected, so I'm posting here since this is for a military application.

I have a part that uses a commercial grade spray paint as a touch up. From the dawn of time, this has been used but has never been captured on the drawing or manufacturing instructions. I have been tasked with doing so and although I could always put Rustoleum on the Parts List, I'd rather find a generic military or commercial spec that I could refer to as well.

To date, I have found a ton of paint specs but I don't know their applicability or relation to a can of spray paint. The spec is A-A-2787. I have contacted Rustoleum for information, but have yet to receive a response. Can anyone recommend any spray paint specs, commercial or military, that I can review for applicability?

Thanks.

2787 is probably the one I'm going to use, but I'm checking to see if any experienced engineers know of other specs I may have missed when I did my search.

If the part is for a ground vehicle or ground troop application, the requirement will likely be a chemical agent resistant coating (CARC paint). A lot of hazmat/PPE issues with that stuff.
