Splitting part while keeping mesh

So I have a meshed part I would ideally like to have split into two separate parts. However, I want to keep the mesh since seeding took a long time. Ideas?

Alternatively I need a way to create a surface to surface interaction along the interface of two partitions in the same part. Is this possible?

If you want to split it at the interface between element layers, you could use the Create Mesh Part tool to get orphan mesh and delete proper element layers from each copy.

Regarding connection of separated regions of the same part, you can use tie constraints for that. Abaqus does it internally in some cases.
