I am trying to Split a BOM in SW09. I keep getting the following when trying to Cup & Paste the Split section to another sheet:

"This table cannot be deleted because the table contains a column that is essential."

Suggestions?

MadMango,

We are using SW09, SP3.0 and do not have this issue.

Is there something special about your BOM template?

Our BOM template is very simple, Item Number, Part Number, Description, and Quantity.

Nothing special, I am using the default, unedited BOM Template.

This is also the BOM being discussed in thread559-259285. I figured this was a different issue, requiring a new topic.

Not sure about SW2009, but in SW2010 just click on the top LH corner of the BOM (with the crossed arrows) and drag it onto the sheet tab (bottom of the screen).

MadMango try this.
Inserting SolidWorks® Table BOM on sheet 2
On sheet 1 BOM table. Click the line below where you want it split. Right click, select split, then horizontally above.
Then select the whole table (top left corner of table), and hit Ctrl X to cut. Add sheet 2 and press Ctrl V to paste. Now position your table above the title block.

Standing, I need to Split Vertically (columns) not Horizontally (rows). When I try to insert the BOM on sht2 first, I still get the same messege about there being some "essential" column preventing Cut & Paste to another sheet. Has anyone ever seen that messege before? I can't find any documentation on it.

After a meeting today this need for Splitting the BOM is no longer required, but I'll still look into this for when this does become an issue in the future.

MadMango,

I have the same issue with a vertical split. I did not know that a vertical split was possible.

A vertically split BOM can be moved in SW2010.

Can you move the portion which has the Item number? If you can, then move the whole BOM to the other sheet, create the split and move the Item Number portion back to the main sheet.

I am vertically Splitting the configuration portion of a BOM table. I am unable to move either the Left or Right portion of Split table to another sheet. I have even tried to insert columns to add Item Number, Part Number and Description to the Split section that does not have this info (for the other sheets), but no luck.

DraftingMan seems to be able to reproduce the problem... glad to find this bug and see that it is fixed in SW10.

Can you copy or reproduce the BOM on another sheet?

If you can, can you then split the BOM and either delete or hide the unwanted bits?
