Hello,

I am required to design a large spline coupling. having two external splines housed inside an internal spline (ring gear) The coupling is required to carry loads in one direction and is not subject to torque reversals. The spline joint will be diametre centered and has the following dimensions

Module = 20mm
No teeth = 88
Pressure angle = 30 degrees
Ref pitch diameter=1760mm
Torque transmited = 2000 KNm

My question is whether i could base the geometry calculations i.e tip diametre, root diameter, clearances, etc. on the equations given in DIN 5480, as this standard only covers splines up to module 10, or please advice on any other design path.

Regards

This sounds like it is really a coupling design more than a simple spline design, is there a requirement for this coupling to accept any angularity. I would suggest using some standard geared couplings (flex/rigid combination).

Regards Chris.
