Splicing a Solid Part

I am trying to add .70" to the center of a most axial part. I tried to cut of the back saved it, cut off the front saved it and put both parts into an assembly with a gap of .70". I saved it as a .sldpart intending to add an extrude and combine the body into the final extended part.

However, when I save the assembly as a part the solid bodies lose some key complex surfaces and become surface bodies. Why SolidWorks, why?

Is this normal? Is there a work around? Or a better method perhaps?

This seems so simple yet I am completely stuck.

Why so complicated? Is this an imported solid?

If it is, use the Move Face tool.
The Stretch tool could also be used.
 
Yes it is. The original file is so complex due to the surfacing that it would be a huge file. So to store them we save them as para-solids. I modified one of these files to get the solid part I have now. The surfaces I am losing are from the original imported file.

Do you think that is causing it?
 
I figured it out! Join is an awesome assembly tool. If any one is trying to add a section to a part use Join. Works perfectly.

You can also create configurations.
Each sketch can show the diff sizes, but the configs only use what's needed. It can get complicated to try this on a finished part. Sometimes you have to start from scratch.
