Hi all,

I need for my dissertation to create and test a spider-web model. The type of the testing will be static general. To create the radials of the spider web i have used the command wire. The idea is to see how the web reacts under different loading. The model is ready my problem is that when I am trying to submit the job the program doesn't let me because it shows me the error Too many attempts made for this increment. Any Ideas how can i solve it?

Model Description.

Frame: Extruded shell 0.1m*0.1m*0.01m
Spiral: Planar wire
BC: The connections between the radials and the frame are fixed and the connections between the spiral and the radials pinned

Thank you very much in advance

With the information provided here is my best guess. Have you assured that all degrees of freedom are constrained to avoid rigid body motion? Remember to check rotations as well. If you use a fixed constraint on the entire model and it solves that provides a hint that we are on the right track. I hope this helps.

To be specific, and as per Rob's implication, note that, unlike continuum elements, nodes on structural elements (like wires) have both translational and rotational degrees of freedom. You must make sure that rigid body rotations/translations are not allowed. Two ways to find this out:

a) Check your boundary conditions.
b) Open the ODB, go to Job Diagnostics and see if singularities show up as warnings.
