Good evening everyone, I'm an Aerospace engeneering student and I'm modeling a composite specimen with Patran. In particular it's a 4 layers plain weave specimen with a fibre cut in a certain layer, the cut is modeled with a property that has 3 layers of composite and 1 layer of just matrix. One end of the specimen in clamped meanwhile on the other I impose a displacement to simulate a tensile test. When i plot the strain (because in a real tensile test would be "easy" to measure strain instead of stress) in the single layer they are the same for all layers (is that beacuse the displacement is linear so the strain in constant through all the laminate?). A method to model different strain for the different layers (which have different orientation) would be to use 3D element instead of 2D shell?
