Dear all,
Now I am designing heat exchanger, the project owner wants to have tongue and groove gasket seating. We will use flat metal gasket.
Could anyone have formula to specify the tongue and groove gasket seating width ??

I assume you are designing an Appendix 2 flange. The flange facing configuration has no effect on the gasket seating width. The nominal gasket width N is often set by the Nmin calculation which gives guidance against crushing the gasket. The effective gasket widths b and bo are calculated per the tables in Appendix 2. What the Code calls a nubbin, a narrow raised area on the flange gasket seating face, is often used with flat solid metal gaskets to reduce the seating load and required bolting. The Nmin calculation is not part of the Code, but some handbooks, specifications, and software perform it and select the N based on that.

Hope this is some help, see Appendix 2. Sorry I can't cite table numbers, figures, etc. I don't have that in front of me, or in my head!
