I basically want to specify the proper stainless steel equivalents to what we specify for carbon steel for structural applications. I haven't been able to find all the information that I need & would like more knowledge of stainless steel. What are the equivalent designations for these items below, along with their stresses?
Pipes - ASTM A53, Grade B, Fy=35 ksi, Fu=60 ksi
Tubes or HSS - ASTM A500, Grade B, Fy=46 ksi, Fu=58 ksi
Shapes - ASTM A36, Fy=36 ksi, Fu=58 ksi
- ASTM A992, Fy=50 ksi, Fu=65 ksi
Machine bolts - ASTM A307, Fy=36 ksi, Fu=60 ksi
- ASTM A36, Fy=36 ksi, Fu=58 ksi (same as for shapes, above)
Welds - AWS E70XX electrodes, Fu=70 ksi
I've seen Alloy Types 304 & 316 thrown around in discussions, and I've seen E316-XX & E309L-16 electrodes specified. What are their differences & where would they apply? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
