Spaceball 5000 USB - Measuring in SW 2007

I've been using a Spaceball 5000 USB with SW for several years now. Just recently we've changed over to SW 2007 x64 SP3.1 on Windows x64.
The problem I have is every so often my measeure tool (programmed to button 9) stops working. I've made sure the measure function is assigned correctly in parts / assemblies / drawings. It just seems to stop, it's not a faulty button as I can change back to another part or assembly and measure it and it works. Even more strange is when I change back to the part / assembly that wouldn't measure and then it does?????
3DConnexion are looking into it for me, but aren't being that helpful at the moment. I'm using the latest driver version 3.3.2.
Any ideas??

Well I don't think the driver is supported on 64 but I might be wrong. I know my Spaceball driver would get a runtime error all the time in 32bit and my spacepilot still does sometimes and when that happens all button programs are lost. I got that with the spaceball a lot. I think the problem is in the driver working with windows and 3DConnexion is liable for the problems incurred. I would contact them if you are having a problem with driver. Its not really something SW controls since SW didn't write the code or the add-in software.

Thanks for the reply Steve,

I heard a rumour along the same lines about the 64bit issue, but the driver has a specific add in for 64 bit SW so you expect it to work!! The weird thing is, it is so random sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

The 3Dconnexion tech guys are looking into it, but they don't seem to be helping too much at the moment.

I agree its random, because it's random here as well... FYI my name is Scott

Let us know if 3DConnexion has a fix or explanation I am curious to know what they have to say.

As en experiment, also try mapping a key on the keyboard to the Measure tool and see if that key still works when you're SpaceBall button does not.

For whatever reason, SW just can't seem to get custom mappings to work all of the time. And what you describe, I've seen with my key mappings.

Tried the same sort of test and it worked fine here (space pilot).

My problem is that out of the blue I can get a "Run Time Error" (RTE) with my space pilot on occasions and that causes my buttons to be lost. I have a back up, but its frustrating. My Spaceball 5000 was much, much worse about that and I got to a point that I just didn't program the buttons anymore. I just simply used the motion contoller side of it.

I've tried the keyboard shortcut route and it works fine when the spaceball doesn't!! Is then a SW problem or 3DConnexion??
