Hello,

We are doing carburising hardening some gear parts.
After tempering we do shotblasing of the parts.

Now, customer is insisting on 100% removal of soot from the parts. He also wants the part to look like steel grey and not blackish. The evaluation method is rubbing a tissue paper on the part and observing for black color.

We tried with different shot blasting time, but customer is not happy with the result.

Any suggestions to remove the black color or soot is welcome.

Thanks

SPM

Please adopt standard cleaning practices after washing and drying the parts using grit blasting .You can also try vibratory polishing.

If the parts could take the heat we would run them through our Pyrolysis Ovens, like a self cleaning oven.

The second choice would be to use a vibratory system, as mentioned above, using the proper media and cleaning solution.

Blast them with corncobs or walnut shells.

The last would be to run them in a tumbler with a soft media like oak sawdust with plastic media.

I would also contact someone like Heatbath for their cleaning recommendations
